A free event organised by Richmond and Kingston World Development Movement, in partnership with the Richmond Environment Network (REN)
The World Development Movement (WDM) was founded in 1970 and is an organisation campaigning for justice for the world's poor. It aims to tackle the underlying causes of poverty and is now campaigning on climate change because of its effects in the developing world - particularly on food supplies. This event is part of our wider work to research and promote positive alternatives to the current world order. For more information click here.
The Richmond and Kingston World Development Movement is a friendly and active group that holds informal meetings once a month in members' houses in the Kingston and Richmond area. We also have close links with other organisations that are active in the area through the Kingston Peace and Justice Network. If you would like to know more about what we are doing in the local area, or want to come along to a meeting, take a look at our webpage.
The Richmond Environment Network (REN) aim to promote a passion for the environment (both natural and built) in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and to provide a one-stop shop for support, information and guidance to organisations, groups and individuals working in this field. For further information on REN click here.
This event will fall within REN's local Environmental Forum programme. Having combined the former LA21 Quarterly Meetings with SustAR's Environmental Forum, the idea of the Forum is to stimulate debate and discussion on environmental and sustainability issues, increasing awareness and providing positive actions that can be taken. While this event is focused on climate change, other events will tackle subjects such as flooding and waste reduction.
Richmond Council have also been supportive of the event, in keeping with their commitment to make addressing climate change their top priority. In January 2007 they set up a new Sustainability Unit to provide a coherent and consistent response to the challenge of sustainable development. This is a new team dedicated to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable energy use in the council and across the borough. For further information about the work they are doing click here.
